‘Blue is the Warmest Colour’ wins big at Cannes


Blue is the Warmest Colour, a French Film about lesbian romance, took the top award in the 66th Cannes Film Festival, the Palme d’Or. It is actually the first comic book based movie to win the prestigious award. It is written and directed by Abdellatif Kechiche, stars Adèle Exarchopoulos, a 15 year old girl who fell in love with Emma, which was played by Léa Seydoux. The jury was headed by no other than, Steven Spielberg. 

“The film had a beautiful French youth that I discovered during the long time filming the movie,” said Kechiche at the festival closing ceremony Sunday. “It taught me a lot about the spirit of freedom.”

The film has received a lot of good comments from the critics, as well as controversy, due to explicit sex scenes.
